Hey everyone!! I'm wondering a few things about system access. Ok, I'm starting a new job soon, and their computers don't have accessable software. I don't have jaws, so I was thinking of getting system access. Does anyone know the prices of the product, and the different choices I can get. I know they sell a version on a thumb drive that I can plug in, how much does that cost? Thanks!

I think it is $499 for the thumb drive version, might be $399, they also had a $10 a month subscription to their product, but I am not sure if it was discontinued.
NVDA is bloody good as well, I find it better than SA in many areas, so it depends what your job is and what you are expected to do and what software you will be using.
You ight be forced to go with one of the big name players e.g. for advanced Excel stuff and some specialized software, make sure what you get will do what you need it to do, whatever solution you go with.

What exactly is nvda?? Its a basic customer service job, basically I'd be on the phone, and using the computer to log into people's accounts and answer and resolve problems.

Check out www.nvda-project.org .. it is a free, open source screen reader you can run directly or from a thumb drive, works with tts voices, even works with braille, though not as well as Jaws. Works very well with Firefox, ok with Internet Explorer, works fine with email but has problems with Excel and advanced Word functions, does not work very well with msn.
I like it as much, or better, than System Access personally so definitely give it a try before you splurge $400 on that solution.

p.s. certainly not dizzing System Access, they have their strengths and I like what they´ve been doing, all the power to them.

Or, just go to www.satogo.com and use Serotek's system access to go. You can actually install it so it automaticly logs on every time you restart the computer. I'm hoping it doesn't do this for all users who might wish to use your machine when you don't, ;lol, but it certainly saved my bacon the other week when setting up this netbook before I loaded JAWS 11. You will need to register for a free account with System Access To Go/Serotek, who should then send you a Pin to enable you to log on to System Access if and when you need it. You will want to purchase a speech engine from them for around $20, there are 3 or 4 different speech engines to choose from, my preferred one being Eloquence because its what I've always been used to hearing with JAWS, but, each to their own. Other than the $20 you might well be spending on the speech engine, it's all free, no authorisation, no nothing once installed.
